We are not a faceless consolidator and allow you to remain in full control of your broking business. We are the only player in the UK market actively looking for minority investments in regional brokers.

We are a boutique investor that recognises the successful trading skills of owners who have built their broking business over many years and wish to realise some of their asset value early, for a variety of reasons but remain in full control of their business and potential future total sale. Peter Cullum

Chairman

Peter’s industry experience needs no introduction, and he is widely known as the founder and major shareholder in Towergate, Open GI, GRP and MVP.

His current roles include Visiting Professor at Bayes Business School in conjunction with the Peter Cullum School for Entrepreneurship. Since investing in Ataraxia Broking Ltd, Peter has brought the benefit of his wealth of experience in the M&A market, along with wider insurer relationships to further enhance our product offerings.

James McCaffrey

CEO

James has 40 years’ experience in the insurance industry starting as a graduate trainee with Royal Insurance and moving onto senior roles at Towergate for ten years and in 2014 was appointed CEO of Minority Venture Partnerships working with Peter Cullum.

James focuses on developing collaborative broker relationships supported by a knowledgeable and experienced team of insurance professionals.

James is a graduate of Liverpool University and Ashridge Business school and is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute.

Alan Johnson
M&A Director

Alan has many years’ experience in the Insurance Industry. He began his career with a composite insurer before moving into broking. In 2004 Alan joined Towergate and spent 10 years leading a number of Sales Teams. Alan became part of the inaugural team at Minority Venture Partners in 2014 and fulfilled a joint role in Mergers & Acquisitions for both MVP & GRP. 2020 saw Alan appointed as Managing Director of GRP owned business Cherish Insurance Brokers.

Alan rejoined Peter Cullum at The Broker Investment Group in 2024 and is now looking forward to working with Peter & James McCaffrey focusing on Minority Broker Partnerships.

James Hart

Investment Director

Having started his career with WTW, James became an original member of the management team for Towergate’s broker consolidation business (Folgate Partnership) in 2002. He spent 13 years in a range of general management, marketing, product development and business development leadership roles at Towergate, before taking up an entrepreneurial challenge as a shareholder and Director of a small broker in 2016.

More recently James has held senior marketing and business development roles with Brown & Brown (Europe), Durell Software and Movo Partnership.
